“It’s not often we Northern New Englanders can beat our brethren in bigger metropolises to the cinematic punch!”- Port City Life Magazine

“one of the nation's most walkable, food-centric, historic, livable and romantic cities…a charming little must”
– Chicago Tribune

Portsmouth, New Hampshire…Six films fresh from their debuts at the 40th Telluride Film Festival in Colorado will be on screen at The Music Hall as Telluride by the Sea gets its 15th year under way Friday, September 20 until Sunday, September 22. In keeping with the tradition, film titles will be announced, and individual film tickets will go on sale, over Labor Day weekend – noon Friday August 30, 2013. Patron and Weekend Passes are on sale now.

According to Chris Curtis, Programming Coordinator for The Music Hall, “We are again in store for a sensational weekend – a three day festival of film, food, and fun in a place that the Chicago Tribune recently referred to as ‘a charming little must’ It’s such a great time of year - everybody on staff gets involved with the festival - a total team effort. And, it’s great to see the whole town energized!”

So why buy the pass rather than just the individual film ticket? Curtis continues, “When many buy their pass, they don’t know yet what the films will be and this is part of the mystique and magic. It is a testimonial to the quality of films we get for Telluride by the Sea. It’s the anticipation - not knowing what you are buying, but having innate confidence that it will be worth it, based on previous years of experience. But, whether or not you buy a pass knowing the weekend’s titles or not knowing, when you commit to the whole weekend, it pays off. TFI – Total Film Immersion. And the savvy immersionist chooses the Patron Pass!”

About Silents, Please! – for passholders only
Yearly since its inception, the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado has honored the art of the Silent Film, with its very first year's (1974) tribute to Gloria Swanson and her 1928 film Sadie Thompson, and notably including the 1979 screening of Abel Gance's Napoleon (1927). This year, at Telluride by the Sea, we represent that honor and tradition by screening three remarkable Silents: The iconic comedy Safety Last starring Harold Lloyd (with live score accompaniment by Dreadnaught!); the ultimate French Art Film: Carl Dreyer's The Passion of Joan of Arc; and the film which, in fact, inspired the creation of the Telluride Film Festival itself, Paul Fejos' Lonesome. Each film will be presented in the Loft for passholders only. Passes are on sale now.

About the Telluride Film Festival
The Telluride Film Festival has been, for the last 40 years, a celebration of the art of film: honoring the great masters of the cinema, discovering the rare and unknown, bringing new works by the world's greatest directors and the latest in American independent film to a small mountain town in Colorado. The New York Times called Telluride "the smallest, most original, and most stimulating of the major festivals," while Entertainment Tonight simply said it was "the world's best festival."
